About the Mark Chaffin Center
The Mark Chaffin Centers for Healthy Development comprise a University Level Research Center focused on public health research solutions that prevent child maltreatment, reduce sexual and family violence, optimize life course social-emotional health and development and promote inclusion and quality of life for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Since its inception in 2012, the center’s cumulative sponsored funding has exceeded $83 million. MCCHD is engaged in community research and outreach that supports more than 100 undergraduate and graduate students annually and includes six centers:

- The National Center for Sexual Violence Prevention
- The National SafeCare Training and Research Center
- The Georgia Association for Infant Mental Health

Our Mission
Promoting the health, safety and well-being of children, adults and families through research, service, education, training and advocacy. The center emphasizes bringing scientific innovation into the everyday lives of people and their communities through translational and implementation research.
In an effort to prevent and redress child maltreatment, reduce family violence, and improve the lives of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families, the center seeks to:
- Bring research to practice
- Influence policy
- Provide interdisciplinary pre-service education
- Disseminate best practices information
- Offer undergraduate and graduate interdisciplinary courses and training
- Bring together scholars of evidence-based practices (EBPs) to find new, collaborative treatment and research methods
- Lead the field in promoting developmental, emotional, and behavioral health beginning in infancy and across the life course via evidence-based support and learning programs

Prevent Child Abuse Georgia
Dedicated to preventing child abuse and neglect before it occurs through training, education, collaboration, and maintaining an accessible centralized database of supportive resources for caregivers.
